東京駅の継承
2012年に東京駅が創建時の姿に復原されてから、もう10年になる。写真を撮りながら、リビングヘリテージ・東京駅の継承とは、単に建物として残すのではなく、創建当時の優れた技術や理念、100年余にわたり東京駅に関わってきた多くの人々の想いの継承だと考えるようになった。
東京駅の歴史は社会の成長の反映でもある。大震災や第2次世界大戦からの復興、バリアフリー、女性の社会進出、そして新築ではなく、SDGs的思考は現代社会にふさわしい。
ビルの耐用年数は50年と言われるなか、なぜ、東京駅が継承されているのか。「その場にとどまるためには、走り続けなければならない」赤の女王仮説。絶え間なく進歩を重ねる東京駅の姿に伝統の駅舎を維持する鍵があるのではないだろうか。
Inheritance of Tokyo Station
It has been ten years since Tokyo Station was restored to its original design in 2012. While taking photographs, I began to think that the inheritance of Tokyo Station as a living heritage is not simply the preservation of the building as a structure, but also the inheritance of the outstanding technology and philosophy of the time of its construction and the passion for Tokyo Station of the many people who have been involved with the station for over one hundred years.
